The Union won the civil war for some different reasons, including more resources like weapons and food, had a larger population and more immigration, and because The North had an already established government and knew how to function and work together. These three reasons make up for why the Union won and confederates lost. A reason the confederates lost is because according to Robert E. Lee “Confederacy lost the American Civil War not because it fought badly but because the enemy had more men and guns – indeed more everything.” Meaning that once the union won, there wasn’t a big shock.
To start, one of the biggest reasons for why the union won the war is because of its industrial succession and amount of resources from different factories. This amount of factories in the union was much greater than the south meaning that the North had more weapons and supplies for war than the confederacy. According to a handout about the strengths and weaknesses of the north and south, it said that “The Union’s industrial revolution was much greater than the South’s”
Also, another reason to how the Union won the Civil war is because of their huge population. During the civil war, the union had a population of about twenty-two million people while the south all together had about nine million. According to www.civilwar.org they wrote “At the beginning of the war the Northern states had a combined population of 22 million people. The Southern states had a combined population of about 9 million. This disparity was reflected in the size of the armies in the field. The Union forces outnumbered the Confederates roughly two to one.” This shows the huge population comparison between the two.
Now, the final reason to say why and how the north won the civil war is by knowing that the confederate government wasn’t fully established yet while the Union’s government worked very smoothly and Abraham Lincoln didn’t have any major issues with his government.
In conclusion, the union has many and much more reasons to why and how they won the Civil war. Including industrial and factory amount advantage, population advantage, and having a fully working government have all helped the Union win the war and have al slaves freed and establish the confederate states of ameria to join the union again.
