Throughout History many events have occurred that has put a dent into the timeline, it could be simple things or more complicated things. These events regardless of the impact they have done bring forth the fundamentals of how History that came to be. In this essay, we’ll come to discuss and analyze the four different stages that shaped American history over the last 400 years. Couvares brought forth these four different stages: the providential, the rationalist, the nationalist, and the professional.
The providential view holds God in control of history and people who believe in this view seek god for future guidance. The rationalist, as stated are those who rely on reason as their main staple and using their knowledge as a means of what’s truth and what’s not. The nationalist ideologies although working around their history knowledge tend to distort what they know to better fit their needs. They are prideful of where they come from and their place is better than yours. At last, we have professional. The professional/progressivism has the overall base idea of just progressing with science, technology, and economic development.
Establishing themselves in the seventeenth and eighteenth century the men and women came forth and developed their providential view of history, whereas noted, they hold God as the one who makes history. In Colossians 1:17 (NIV) it states, “He is before all things, and in him, all things hold together.” The main carriers of these fundamentals were the Puritans. The Puritans were strong practitioners of religion. Throughout their time everything that happened was because of god and if something bad were to happen it was because they were being punished by God due to their sins.
